The mobileLexEVS is designed to provide users access to controlled medical terminology provided by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Enterprise Vocabulary (EVS) Project.

The NCI EVS project provides the NCI Thesaurus (NCIt), which is an extensive reference terminology with some complex features. Each specific meaning, such as melanoma, lung, or chemotherapy, is represented by a distinct concept with a unique, permanent code. Each concept provides additional information such as a preferred name, other terms and codes, definitions, and relationships with other concepts.

This first release of mobileLexEVS focuses on providing users with the data that they want; being able to obtain concepts for controlled medical terms and descriptions based on concept codes.

LexEVS is a collection of programmable interfaces that provide users with the ability to access controlled terminologies supplied by NCI Thesaurus. They are published via the Open-Source LexEVS Terminology Server.

The LexGrid Model, developed by Mayo is the underlying informational model used to store terminological metadata. The model defines how vocabularies should be formatted and represented programmatically, and is intended to be flexible enough to accurately represent a wide variety of vocabularies and other lexically-based resources. The mobileLexEVS takes advantage of the LexGrid model and the Representational State Transfer (REST) service hosted by NCI to provide access to the terminology data.
The Text Search link will allow users to search the NCI Thesaurus using free text search. The Search Results are listed based on their concept code. In the current release, the maximum number of results returned by a query is limited to 50. If there are too many results returned by the query, you can further specify the search term to reduce the results.
The Concept Search link will allow users to search the NCI Thesaurus using concept codes. In the Search box, enter the exact concept code whose definition you are looking for and click the Return button. The application will search on the concept code. Concept Details include the concept description, source and whether it is the preferred definition in the NCI Thesaurus.
